We are looking for teaching assistants to help with the running of after school maths clubs using the Japanese abacus in Leicester.  Knowledge of how to use the abacus is not necessary as training will be provided.Qualification requirement:NVQ level 3 or aboveHours: After school hours from 3 to 6 pm depending on days of the week.  Minimum 4 hours a week with possibility of extending this further to running your own sessions.Criteria:Experience in teaching children in a formal education settingMust be proficient in English and primary mathsEnergetic and good with youngSEE DETAILS

Following a successful first round of abacus training as part of the Dementia Prevention Project, Nisih Freeman has secured another round of 10 weeks funding from the Nottinghamshire County Council to run abacus training for the elderly in Keyworth open to elderly in Keyworth and surrounding areas.  Hope to see new people on next Monday!Starting date: Monday, 8 October 2018Ending date: Friday, 21 December 2018Venue: Mondays, Centenary Lounge, from 10am to 11am              Fridays, Centenary Lounge, from 11am to 12noon

General Updates

This workshop is free to attend for anybody over 60s.  The workshop runs twice a week, on Mondays (10 to 11am) at the Centenary Lounge or  Fridays (11 to 12noon) at the Parochial Hall.Refreshments are provided free of charge.  Feel free to drop in at anytime.This workshop has been sponsored by Nottinghamshire County Council.  Active mind workshop aims to help prevent the onset of dementia.

‘Active mind’ abacus sessions for the elderly have been running for 10 sessions now (5 weeks).  We have around 21 participants who signed up for the event when we started.  There are currently around 15 who still attend at different times depending on their other activities.It is really amazing to see their enthusiasm toward learning the abacus and how they put aside time everyday to do some tables.   The dedication they have shown towards the training is also unbelievable.  Many of them have taken the abacus with them when theySEE DETAILS
